To reach the driveshaft, you must remove the bolts from the factory heatshield. Then the transmission mount can be removed by undoing the four bolts holding it, as well as the mid-pipe hanger mount |  Remove the three 18mm bolts...  Remove the three 18mm bolts securing the front of the driveshaft. They're on tight. Notice our rubber guibo is cracked - now's the perfect time to replace it with a part from Bavarian, as we did |  Now remove the bolts securing...  Now remove the bolts securing the rear of the driveshaft to the diff. Use a screwdriver to stop the shaft rotating |  Next is the tranny removal....  Next is the tranny removal. Start by removing the two bolts holding the clutch slave cylinder and let it hang. Then continue with the remaining seven bolts around the tranny housing, along with two bolts holding the starter near the top. Don't be surprised if it's tough to slide the tranny out |  You can drop the tranny and...  You can drop the tranny and pull the shifter down with it, but MKC finds it easier to disconnect the carrier from the front selector rod. Do this by flipping the clip and removing the pin holding it in place |
