Water Pump Fitting
 Stewart Components water pump,...  Stewart Components water pump, silicone houses and 80C thermostat from Bimmerworld. If your E36 came with a plastic thermostat housing, it's also recommended you replace it with an aluminum one (far right) |  The Stewart water pump (bottom)...  The Stewart water pump (bottom) is beefier than stock parts (top) that use aluminum or plastic impeller, rather than a stainless steel one. The Stewart part is more durable and increases flow 15% |  We went to MKC Performance...  We went to MKC Performance for our install and testing. To remove the water pump, first take out the four radiator cover screws then remove it |  Remove the clutch fan with...  Remove the clutch fan with a 32mm wrench. We did it the old fashion way and gave it a good whack to the right (it's reverse-threaded) |  Spin the fan to the right...  Spin the fan to the right (yes, righty) until it comes loose. Carefully pull it out. Removing the upper radiator pipe prior to this will make things easier, but it's optional |  Pry off the tensioner pulley...  Pry off the tensioner pulley cover (next to the alternator) with a screwdriver |  Take a 4mm allen head and...  Take a 4mm allen head and crank it about a quarter-turn to the right. This will loosen the accessory belt, allowing you to remove the water pump pulley. Notice how the serpentine belt goes back on before loosening it |  The water pump pulley is the...  The water pump pulley is the large pulley. It sits just underneath the thermostat housing. Undo the four 10mm bolts that secure it, and remove the pulley - a few light taps may be necessary |  Behind the pulley, the factory...  Behind the pulley, the factory water pump is secured with four more 10mm bolts. Remove them and pull out the pump. Simply replace it with the new Stewart unit and refit the parts in reverse order |
