m3 shift knob install
Interior Upgrades - Project BMW M3
To remove the e-brake handle and boot, first unclip the boot and pull it up over the handle. You should then see a black zip-tie, which needs to be cut. Now pull the boot off completely
Removing the handle is harder than the shift knob. With two hands, twist it back and forth for about 10min. It should finally twist all the way round, as shown. Only then can it be yanked off easily. Apparently, the wooden handle on the M3 "Luxury Package" inevitably gets destroyed during removal
The e-brake boot and handle go on the same way they came off. Once everything's installed, the armrest looks factory and is great for highway commutes. We now have access to one cupholder rather than two, but don't mind
We used Bavarian Autosport's 24-bulb LED units for the dome and 12-bulb LED units in the C-pillars. The kits include double-stick tape and a variety of adapters that resemble the bulbs you're replacing. These adapters power the LEDs, which are plugged together in series
To install the dome lights, pop off the sunroof control panel (top). This will give better access to the dome light panel, which also pops off. We're only replacing the center dome light, not the two outer reading lights
Detach the circuit board from the back of the dome light panel by carefully pulling on it and leaving it hanging from the roof. This will free the two-piece dome light cover. Press the silver tabs in the middle and the outer cover will come off as well
With the outer cover off, you've got full access to the housing. Use the 3M tape on the back of the LEDs and reattach to the cover. Plug the LEDs into the supplied adapter and plug it back in place of the original dome light on the circuit board hanging from the roof
To replace the C-pillar lights, pop off the C-pillar upholstery to give you access to the back of the housings. Then unplug them and push them out
Using the smallest adapter supplied, it was plugged into the 12-bulb LED light. This goes against the clear plastic when it's snapped back together. There wasn't room to use another 12-bulb LED to replace the regular bulb on the left of the light unit. However, this is only a reading light, operated by the black button in the middle, and we rarely carry rear passengers who can read!
