Last month we ran the results of our fifth Photochop Challenge. We printed the top examples from the challenge to create a paint scheme for a BMW touring car. This time, we're going back to basics and giving you a photo of the new VW CC to manipulate in any way you see fit.

All good things come to an end and this marks the passing of Project Porcelain, the shortest running project in et history.

Unless you've been living in a cave, you should know by now that we're taking part in the Castrol Syntec Top Shop Challenge. As the name suggests, it's sponsored by Castrol's leading Syntec lubricant and they challenged et - and six other magazine titles within our group - to build a max horsepower motor.

As soon as somebody mentions SUV in the et office, a red flag pops up: gas-guzzlers, overweight, etc. We tend to forgive the BMW X6, Audi Q7, VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne, but these vehicles aren't particularly affordable and appeal to a different group; probably not to us Euro performance junkies. However, VW may have changed our way of thinking with the Tiguan, its first compact SUV.

We've always tried to cover the Euro tuning scene in its entirety, but recently it's become painfully obvious that we were overlooking an important aspect - the ladies.

Seventh fastest in testing and tenth in qualifying before being pushed off the track, Volvo's new green C30 race car took its debut in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) in the seventh race of the series at Brands Hatch, England this weekend. Volvo's priority was to test the new ethanol-driven race car against the best in the world. This was a debut that gave both a taste for the future and some drama.

With the launch of its new X6, BMW claims to have invented a new class of vehicle: the Sports Activity Coupe - but then, they couldn't have called it a Sports Utility Coupe, right?

When we first drove the Mk5 VW R32 (et 10/07), we gave it a slightly lukewarm reception: as did most others. However, our brief spell in the car didn't allow a final verdict. Yet we did suggest that the $10k difference between the GTI and R32 might be better spent on modifying the GTI to outperform its big brother.And now it's time to put our wallets where the pies enter and actually test this theory. So we gathered a stock GTI, modified GTI and stock R32 for the ultimate Golf shootout. Was the R32 as underwhelming as we remembered? Would a modified GTI kick its butt?

Everybody has their "thing." It could be something they're known for, some belief they stick to, or a certain panache they possess. For example, I'm known for being overly sarcastic, Greg's known for never featuring Sciroccos (What? - Ed), and Ross Morehead is apparently known for stunning white Volkswagens. Known well enough, in fact, that a white VW with black accents is known as the "KoolWhip" look in his hometown of Sherman, TX. "Ever since I named my white Jetta KoolWhip, it kinda spread throughout the local boards," Ross explained.

Whoever said you can only use European parts to build a Euro was wrong. Take this '07 BMW 335i: it's classy enough to entertain royalty yet casual enough to daily drive. It's also got enough balls to run at full throttle on a challenging road course and has plenty of ponies to pass that annoying Nissan 350Z hogging the fast lane. This car isn't over-the-top and has a good combination of both panache and performance, yet it only has a few aftermarket parts from across the Atlantic. How is this possible?

As you may have gathered from this issue, we returned to Japan this year and paid another visit to our friends at Studie AG in Yokohama City. Run by Yasuaki "Bob" Suzuki, the company is one of the leading BMW specialists in the country and responsible for some of the finest BMW projects in the world.

There's nothing more smooth or classy than a black BMW 3-Series sedan. It's not too flashy, thanks to its subdued color and four-door practicality. It's also not too big, retaining its sportiness and youthful appeal. So add some subtle aesthetic parts plus a lightly-modded twin-turbo engine and you have yourself an incredible European car to drive to work or impress a business client.

For the next ten minutes, forget about the new m3. save your money and ego because steven lin's latest project car shows us the twin-turbo 335i has yet to flex its muscle.

Cory Caddy
Work on Cory Sterling's '81 VW Caddy is flying. Last month the 1.9 TDI motor fired up. This month, the new air suspension has been installed with the help of Pennair Hydraulics, which supplied the lines and fittings. The interior has been dyed black as well.

This is our fourth Photochop Challenge, preceded by challenges for the Mk5 GTI, BMW E92 and Audi TT. However, we feel this fourth one has generated some of the best quality to date and judging a winner was extremely difficult - not that it's a competition, but we got together with DC Shoes to reward the entrant who we felt had created the best artwork.

Shortly after we named Tom MacLachlan's '01 VW Jetta 1.8T our top pick from Waterfest 13 (et 10/07), he made a couple of notable changes to differentiate his car from the rest of the Mk4 community; most notably, the newly-released BBS LM-R wheels, a first in the VW community. So we caught up with Tom again to get the scoop on his mission to build his exceptional Euro-style Jetta.

We've been saving some of our best Mk4 GTIs in order to put together this Mk4 Mayhem issue. We hope you enjoy it, particularly the diversity of approach from the respective owners. I really liked how Tom MacLachlin's OEM+ Jetta is contrasted by Marcus Jung's candy blue creation - it would be hard to find two cars at further ends of the spectrum.

As the final chapter is being written on one of Europe's best loved and successful performance cars, the E46 M3 takes its last bow as it's replaced by the eagerly anticipated fourth generation E92 M3. But the E46 won't be forgotten in a hurry, particularly when modifiers around the world continue to break new ground in their effort to realize the ultimate interpretation.
