’87 VW Jetta Coupe

Paul Grube • Cincinnati, OH
Many consider the Mk2 the quintessential VW, with the rare Jetta Coupe held in high regard. So it made sense when Paul Grube’s two-door popped up on our radar that we use it for the first of our extended Ride of the Month coverage. The timeless lines of the Coupe design look great slammed on 17" BBS LMs thanks to Koni coilovers. The mild exterior treatment includes big bumpers and flares to hint at what lies beneath: a low-compression VR6 OBD2 swap fed by a custom stage 2/3 Kinetic turbo kit. Power goes through a Peloquin LSD, while braking duties are handled by a combo of Girling 60 dual-piston calipers with 11" G60 rotors up front, and a Mk4 setup out back. Interior amenities include powered Recaros plus a full Mk3 dash with cluster and HVAC controls. With its combination of old school charm and a solid parts list, owner Paul must be missing it while he’s currently serving overseas in the airforce. His wife Katelyn was responsible for submitting the car without his knowledge – until he reads this! So here’s a big thanks to Paul for both serving our country and preserving an iconic piece of VW history. Get home safe.
