Only available in Europe, a turbo-diesel version of the Citron C1 supermini achieved an amazing 84.32mpg in an independent 2008 ALD Automotive/Total Excellium MPG Marathon organized by a British magazine.
The tiny C1 1.4HDi covered a total of 633miles on just one tank of fuel - the distance from Boston to Cleveland. The super-efficient city-car achieved a significant improvement on the officially sanctioned combined MPG figure of 68.9mpg, proving the official figures can be beaten quite easily with modern diesels, especially on longer freeway journeys.
During the drive, the C1 was put through a rigorous 400+ mile fuel economy test on a variety of road conditions including everything from freeways to winding country roads to ensure the test was relevant.
