Back in August 2011 we reported on the News pages at eurotuner.com that Smart was considering other forms of transport, including its ebike electric bicycle, which is due to be launched worldwide in about now.
Following on the heels of that announcement, Dr Joachim Schmidt from Mercedes-Benz recently proclaimed that the escooter would also reach production. “With this step, we are adding a further component to our smart mobility concept for urban mobility in the future,” he said.
In 2010, smart unveiled a portfolio of electric products for urban transport at the Paris Motor Show. In addition to the smart fortwo electric drive coupé and convertible, they also showed the smart ebike and escooter.
The smart fortwo electric drive will be launched in the summer 2012 in certain markets, so that only leaves the escooter without a production date. However, the fully electric escooter should appear within the next two years.
