2013 BMW 135is Announced - Web Exclusive

This car will be available in both hard top and Convertible versions.

Following the introduction of the 335is model for the 2011 model year, BMW is announcing an “is” version of the compact 135i Coupe. This car will also be available in both hard top and Convertible versions, scheduled to arrive at BMW showrooms this fall. The prices will be $44145 and $48845 respectively (including $895 destination and handling).

Unlike the 335is, this model gets the single-turbo 3.0-liter inline-6 (N55) engine featuring Valvetronic and direct injection.

For the 135is, the engine has been tuned to increase peak horsepower from 300 to 320hp and 317 lb-ft of torque (+17 lb-ft) while maintaining the same emissions level and MPG ratings of the 135i.

A BMW Performance exhaust system complements the software and provides a very sporty exhaust note. The engine cooling system has been appropriately upgraded by adding a larger radiator fan and auxiliary radiator.

Both models will be offered with either a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional 7-Speed Double Clutch Transmission.

The 135is gets sport suspension, while the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) gets a higher threshold before activation. This allows the driver to experience more spirited driving on dry roads while offers more flexibility when driving in challenging conditions such as in snow. Both DSC and DTC can be disabled entirely.

The differential in the 135is comes from a new generation of final drives optimized for smoothness and fuel efficiency. Featuring double-helical ball bearings, the differential runs at a lower operating temperature thanks to the reduction of fluid required. Rear brake management is used to simulate a differential lock for stronger acceleration in turns and low-traction conditions.

The exterior will be identified by exclusive 18” wheels, high-gloss black kidney grilles, black mirror caps and special exterior badges in additional to the standard M Sport Package components.

Interior highlights include stainless steel pedals, interior badges and optional black leather with blue stitching for the standard sport seats. The BMW135is is available to order now.
