We all know rubbing’s racing, but sometimes it’s taken to the extreme; people can get hurt and metal gets bent. Barber Motorsport Park in Birmingham, AL was the scene of a huge crash for the #97 BMW M3 from Turner Motorsport.
The car was shared by Michael Marsal and Boris Said. "We had a miserable Coninental Tires Sports Car Challenge race at Barber. Actually most teams did, it was a crashfest," said team owner Will Turner. "Our #97 car was almost destroyed in an incident and it’s been three weeks of solid work to build a completely new M3 for Michael and Boris. The guys at the shop really stepped up to get the new car finished. Thursday's test session at the Homestead-Miami Speedway will be the first time it turns a (Forgeline) wheel.
“Thursday will also see the #93 GT M3 back on track as we test a new driver. If all goes well, he’ll suit up for Sunday's race to co-drive with Billy Johnson."
It’s not unusual to see a racecar crashed one weekend and running again at the next race, but we don’t often get see the frantic action behind the scenes.
However, Turner Motorsport put together this cool time-lapse video of the rebuild. Apparently, the damage was so bad it needed an entirely new bodyshell.
