Audi A7 Wins Autombile Magazine and Motor Press Guild Car of the Year Award - Web Exclusive

The Motor Press Guild bestowed its first-ever ‘Vehicle of the Year’ award on the 2012 Audi A7.

The new Audi A7 has been selected by Automobile Magazine as its 2012 Automobile of the Year. The editors selected the A7 for its design, performance and technology.

The four-door luxury A7 was also chosen for its sleek, striking design, innovative use of a hatchback, cutting-edge technology and powerful engine. Automobile editors cited the A7’s effortless acceleration provided by an all-wheel-drive supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with eight-speed transmission, as well as the car’s deft handling.

The Audi TT RS was also selected by Automobile to receive its 2012 “All-Star” Award. This time the editors called the TT RS powerful, refined, and emotive – giving an exhilarating driving experience.

“The Audi TT RS is not just a beautiful machine inside and out, but a soul-stirring one; the epitome of everything that Audi means to us. It’s a perfect tool for driving perfectionists, worthy of a choice parking spot in the dream garage,” said Jean Jennings, from Automobile Magazine.

The Motor Press Guild also bestowed its first-ever ‘Vehicle of the Year’ award On the 2012 Audi A7. Representing the largest automotive media association in North America, MPG President, Laura Burstein explained that “It was a close contest, but the 2012 Audi A7 managed to edge out the competition with its compelling combination of handsome styling, dynamic handling and advanced in-car technology. "In this highly competitive market, it’s hard to be a standout, but Audi did it with the A7".

The 2012 Audi A7 was one of five finalists chosen by a carefully selected panel of MPG journalist members who test and review cars on a regular basis. The entire journalist membership present at MPG's recent Track Day event evaluated the finalists in the categories of safety, quality, value, performance/handling, design/style, environmental/green impact and technology/innovation standards. Vehicles were required to be all-new or substantially changed from the previous year's model and available at dealerships on or before January 1, 2012.
