Alongside the successful R8 LMS, Audi Sport is now offering private teams the chance to buy the racing version of the Audi TT RS.
Unlike the all-wheel drive road car, this TT RS is front-wheel drive but retains its 380hp turbo engine. The car was developed by quattro GmbH for the SP4T class of the German VLN Endurance Championship following a year-long testing schedule.
After class victory at this year’s Nürburgring 24-hour race in June, the testing culminated with an impressive performance at the 6-hour race at the same track at the end of August. It was the first pole position of a FWD vehicle in the history of the VLN, with the car recording an overall victory ahead of more powerful rivals.
As a production-derived vehicle, the 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbo engine is designed for high mileage, making it suitable for the racing application. Its power drives the front wheels via a sequential six-speed racing transmission with paddle shifters.
Audi developed racing spoilers for maximum aerodynamic efficiency and downforce within the series’ rules. It’s assisted by a racing suspension system with a wide range of adjustment options.
The ready-to-race TT RS is being offered to Audi Sport customers for 180,000 euros (about $250,000). "We will support our customers, who will benefit from our experience with the R8 LMS and the extensive testing program we have completed with the TT RS. Customers can look forward to a reliable, easy-to-drive and affordable sports car," said Werner Frowein from quattro GmbH.
