BMW Motorrad USA has announced the long-awaited S 1000 RR sports bike - expected to arrive in US dealerships by December - will have a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $13800.
A Pre-Sale Program is currently underway through December 31, 2009 to ensure interested customers can secure a place in line when the bike arrives in dealerships in early 2010. BMW launched the new sports bike at the Monza racetrack in Italy during the Superbike World Championship race weekend on May 9, 2009. The S 1000 RR, weighing only 404 lb and delivering a massive 193hp, is one of the most potent, sophisticated and lightest sports bikes ever produced. It currently holds the distinction of being the most powerful production 1000cc sport bike in the world.
In addition to the class-leading powerplant, the BMW S 1000 RR possesses new technical features, such as the first-ever four-stage Race ABS system with settings for Rain, Sport, Race and Slick conditions. The groundbreaking new ABS system weighs only about 5.5 lb - nearly 20 lb lighter than the competition.
With its distinctive asymmetrical headlights, which follow the asymmetric panels, this first BMW superbike promises to standout from the other liter-class bikes. The production version of the S 1000 RR was officially unveiled in the US at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah during WSBK races in the last weekend of May.
