Pack the sunscreen, we're going to the races! BMW North America announced its partnership with Rahal Letterman Racing and the intention to compete in the 2009 American Le Mans Series. The weapon of choice? This steroidal E92 M3 developed by BMW Motorsport. Using the 4.0 V8 P65 motor, it's expected to develop 485hp and 370 lb-ft. The road car makes use of carbon fiber composite panels and the racecar takes this a stage further.
Not only will the roof be constructed from the lightweight material, so will the front fenders, rear apron, hood, trunk lid, rear wing, front wings and flared rear wheel arches.

Austrian tuner O.CT Tuning announces its Mk5 Golf GTI 2.0T project car. It features its stage three software upgrade, sports exhaust and race cat resulting in 270hp. Additional power upgrades include a carbon intake, modified fuel injection system and front-mount intercooler. D-Force Wheels and LTW Motorsports have come together to bring an economical and lightweight wheel to the BMW market thanks to Flow Forming technology. Flow Forming is a hybrid manufacturing process where the wheel centers are low-pressure cast in molds using high quality aluminum. Casting is done on a mandrel by simultaneously heating, spinning and pressurizing to forge the outer section of the wheel. The outers are eventually heat-treated to resist bending.
