The biggest being the switch to a new EA888 1.8-liter turbocharged and direct-injection four-cylinder TSI engine. It replaces the outgoing 2.5- liter five-cylinder engine found in the Jetta, Beetle, and Passat models. The new engine provides the same power output of 170hp as the 2.5-liter engine but ups torque to 184 lb-ft, an increase of seven lb- ft. The power is also delivered lower in the rev range. Expect a claimed 16-17 percent increase in MPG too. Finally, all VW models are now E15 capable and equipped with independent rear suspension.
