  • Remove the hood latch by lifting the latch with a screwdriver and popping the retainer clip off. Use a screwdriver to spread the hood release lever, making sure not to lose the hood release lever, and then completely remove the factory grille. Also, remove the factory VW emblem in the OE grille.

  • Disconnect the battery so the airbag doesn’t accidentally activate and remove the ECU for a later step. Remove the A-pillar by pulling up the airbag symbol and unscrewing the two flathead screws, and then pry the A-pillar from the car.

  • Pass the wiring from the back of the gauge through the SPR pillar pod and through the dash to the driver’s side fuse box. Tap into the 5-amp dash light fuse to power the Autometer boost gauge light.

  • Tap into the boost pressure sender line with a T fitting. Route the boost gauge pressure line through the fresh air dam to the ECU box, and then run the line into the cockpit through the wiring grommet. Connect the hose to the back of the boost gauge, put the gauge into the SPR pillar pod, and install the new pillar. Reinstall the ECU and reconnect the battery, and then you’re good to go.

  • Following the directions from Nitrous Express, tap into the fuel line with the supplied Y connector, and run the new line to the Nitrous Express fuel solenoid. Before cutting into the fuel line, make sure surrounding areas are covered in paper towels to catch any fuel that may drip.

Pertinent Info: Although we had 1552 Design install the grille, anyone could do it. The hardest part of the install is trimming the wire mesh to match the projektzwo grille and even that was child’s play. The only part of the install you shouldn’t do yourself is color-match the grille to the car. After the grille was painted by a pro, the installation took a measly ten minutes.

Autometer Carbon-Fiber
Boost Gauge and SPR A-pillar Pod

Pertinent Info : The installation isn’t too difficult, but finding the right tube to tap into for the boost reading may confuse you for a second, and disconnecting the battery is a good idea when removing airbag-equipped A-pillars, as you may end up with an airbag in your face. Other important items to note: the SPR pod (which is available for most Audis, VWs, and BMWs) has a $25 core charge in addition to the price, but replaces the entire A-pillar, and the Autometer gauge is real carbon fiber. Installation took us about two hours on an Audi S4, so you ought to be able to do it in half that time.

Pertinent Info: We decided to boost the power on a supercharged ’97 BMW M3. Initially, we set the nozzles for a 35-shot, but before the week was finished we upped it to a 50-shot. The kit came with everything needed for a speedy install, including a 10-pound bottle and bottle warmer, and the potential for a 75 horsepower gain. You should be able to get the kit installed and working within three hours.
