Our test S4 already had lowering springs installed on the stock struts. A spring compressor is necessary to remove the strut mounts from the OE springs and struts. KWs Variant 2 coilovers for the S4 feature progressive rate springs coupled with threaded body-adjustable damping shocks. To allow for enough suspension travel even when the car is extremely low, the coilovers have shorter bodies than the stock components. At the rear, a single bolt and nut hold the strut mount to the top of the strut. Remove the nut and bolt, and transfer the strut mount to the KW unit using the same nut and bolt. After the KW unit is reinstalled, the six bolts that connect it to all the necessary points can be torqued back in place. Scott then adjusted the perches based on measurements that he had taken to give the car an awesome stance.
