The first part that Scott installed was UUC’s Audi Driveline Stabilizer. The ADS replaces the plates that connect the subframe to the chassis and links the subframe and chassis to the tranny. Begin by installing the bushing on the tranny using the two unused bolt holes on the tranny and the included bolts and washers. Though a rubber bushing is included with the ADS, we decided to purchase the urethane bushing for additional reduction of driveline shudder.

To remove the plates that hold the chassis and the subframe together, you must first support the subframe so that it doesn’t drop from the vehicle. Once supported, remove the two bolts that hold each plate to the chassis and the one that holds each plate to the subframe.

After removing the two plates, install the washers and bolt that secure the ADS to the bushing. New hardware is provided to attach the ADS to the chassis and subframe. Use the included bolts, washers, and spacers to secure the ADS to the chassis and subframe. The larger spaces are used at the subframe pickup points, while the smaller ones are used at the chassis pickup points.

The ADS as it should look once all of the nine bolts have been installed. Torque everything down, but be especially careful not to over-tighten the bolts that secure the ADS to the chassis (Re-threading the nuts that those bolts connect to is not an easy task.—MAX)

Scott began the KW coilover install at the rear suspension. Once you’ve removed the wheels, undo the bolt and nut that connects the upper A-arm to the control arm and the bolt and nut that secure the strut to the lower control arm. Let the control arm drop gently.

Our test S4 already had lowering springs installed on the stock struts. A spring compressor is necessary to remove the strut mounts from the OE springs and struts. KW’s Variant 2 coilovers for the S4 feature progressive rate springs coupled with threaded body-adjustable damping shocks. To allow for enough suspension travel even when the car is extremely low, the coilovers have shorter bodies than the stock components. At the rear, a single bolt and nut hold the strut mount to the top of the strut. Remove the nut and bolt, and transfer the strut mount to the KW unit using the same nut and bolt. After the KW unit is reinstalled, the six bolts that connect it to all the necessary points can be torqued back in place. Scott then adjusted the perches based on measurements that he had taken to give the car an awesome stance.

The four-link front suspension of the S4 is designed to keep the tires planted firmly on the ground through almost any driving circumstance. All of the pieces that make up the suspension can seem overwhelming when you remove the front wheels. It is actually quite simple to remove the front suspension. Begin by removing the bolt that connects the strut to the lower control arm.

Remove the three bolts in the engine bay that connect the strut mount hat to the chassis on each side. Pull the spring/strut assembly from the vehicle. Remove the two nuts that connect the strut assembly to the strut mount hat. Use a spring compressor so that you can undo the nut that holds the strut mount to the strut.

After transferring the strut mount and the strut mount hat to the KW units, install the units in the car and attach them to the chassis with three bolts to the engine compartment and one bolt at the lower control arm. A little finagling is required to shimmy the upper links into position on the spindle, so be sure to have the bolt handy.

With the thick back pad that the Kinesis wheels provide, a braking system consisting of larger rotors and calipers can easily be installed. The combo of the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDs and the Kinesis Motorsport K28s offers an aggressive look and even more aggressive performance. After everything has been installed, drive the car directly to a professional alignment shop. After the alignment, find your favorite set of twisties and let her rip.
