Instead, we used an X-Acto knife to cut into the rubber intake tube and simply pushed the nozzle in. We’d all love to be able to do it but are too worried about what we believe to be the inherent risks involved (Squeezing in the N2O way, not whatever your dirty mind was thinking.—MAX). Squeezing. With Python’s Venom VCN-2000 Computerized Nitrous System, you can be sure that you are getting the maximum amount of safe, nitrous-enhanced power from any car it is installed in. The system uses a programmable computer module as the brain to monitor several vital engine functions, including: rpm, injector pulse width, throttle angle, and air/fuel ratio, and determines suitability of the combustion chamber for the introduction of nitrous oxide. Basically, it’s idiot proof.

The box contains an installation manual, the VCN-2000 module, the LCD screen, software, a programming cable, the nitrous bottle and brackets, wiring harness, injector harness, 20 feet of nitrous hose, 2.5 feet of nitrous hose with the nozzle attached, nitrous solenoid/valve assembly, connector splices, product and warranty registration card, and wire ties to keep everything together. The VCN-2000 software is also available from Venom-performance.com for free. The software makes the system truly unique, as it not only allows you to tailor installation to your specific vehicle, but it also allows you to tailor the programming based on your engine’s characteristics. The parameters that can be adjusted vary depending on the selected nitrous injection mode. While conventional nitrous systems use different nozzles to tinker with horsepower, and also require you to tap into fuel lines in order to provide the engine with more fuel, the VCN-2000 adjusts nitrous levels by opening or closing the nitrous valve in the solenoid/valve assembly and increases fuel by altering the injector pulse.

There are three separate modes that one can set parameters for. In linear mode, nitrous is injected beginning at a specific rpm and throttle position, which increases to a maximum specified level as the mode indicates, linearly. In drag mode, the VCN-2000 module monitors throttle position and engine rpm and, at a specified rpm, injects nitrous at the user-specified level. In timed mode, once the explicit rpm and throttle position requirements are met, the VCN-2000 injects nitrous at the particular level for the specified time. Python indicates that this mode can be used to virtually eliminate turbo lag by introducing nitrous while the turbo spools up. “These modes sound cool, but how do they keep my engine from blowing up?” Conventional nitrous systems require users to “err” on the cautious side, which any weathered mechanic can tell you is a mistake. The Venom unit, on the other hand, requires you to tap into the negative injector wire of each injector, the oxygen sensor, the throttle position sensor, and the ignition coil (Keep in mind that these are general instructions, so if you don’t have a single-ignition coil, the vehicle-specific installation instructions included in the software will help you to determine exactly where you need to splice.—MAX), something that is much easier to do than exercise restraint. All these splices allow the VCN-2000 to keep tabs on engine parameters vital to the engine’s safety. If, while the nitrous system is active, your engine begins to run lean, the VCN-2000 will shut down nitrous injection.
