AWD CLASS:
034Motorsport
2001 Audi A4
For the past two etGPs, 034Motorsport has brought old, yet fast Audi turbos. Last year, they easily won the dyno and drag challenges, thanks to a 680whp Audi 80. This year, 034 focused on being the fastest on the road course, so developed a car specifically for the GP. The Frankenstein creation uses an A4 B5 chassis with VW's VR6 motor, which was built, bumped to 2.9 liters and fitted with a gigantic GT3582R turbo.
The car came achingly close to beating EuroCode on the drag strip and was within 6whp on the dyno. However, they reached their goal by winning the AWD class on the road course with World Challenge driver and 034 technician Christian Miller at the wheel.Contact: www.034motorsport.com, 510/657-6707
EuroCode Tuning
2001 Audi S4
EuroCode Tuning of Torrance, CA has traditionally come to etGP with aspirations of succeeding with the 1.8T. But this year, owner David Sarabi decided to build an AWD competitor that caught everybody napping.
"I really wanted to see the potential of the S4 beyond what everybody's been doing for the past five years," he explained. "Lots of people said it wasn't possible to go beyond K04 turbos," he continued, and proved his adversaries wrong by using twin GT28RS turbos from ASP on the strengthened and bored 2.8 liter S4 V6.
The most memorable story from EuroCode happened at the drag strip where they were fractions away from beating 034 and were encouraged to try harder. Heading back to the pits, they stripped the interior and removed the exhaust, helping them set the quickest time of the day.Contact: www.ecodetuning.com, 310/379-3876
Torque Factory/Audi West Covina
2001 Audi S4
Fresh from winning Sport Compact Car magazine's Ultimate Street Car Challenge (USCC), Torque Factory came to etGP in a confident mood. However, the criteria for USCC incorporated more street criteria compared to our motorsport-focused event.
If you remember last year's etGP, this S4 entered under the AWE Tuning banner but was subsequently upgraded. The car did well last year, taking second place on the dyno, plus third place on the drag strip and road course.Contact: www.torque-factory.com, 310/466-4296
FWD CLASS:
VF-Engineering/GIAC
2006 VW GTI
By combining the hardware tuning of VF-Engineering and software programming of GIAC, the dynamic duo teamed up to build the most powerful 2.0T to date. VF is known for its superchargers but started working with the 2.0T, while GIAC spent countless hours tuning the car prior to and during the competition. The team ultimately earned first place on the dyno and at the drag strip. However, the GTI couldn't uphold its status on the road course, even with the help of British VW Cup champion, Tony Gilham who flew in for the event.Contact: www.vf-engineering.com, 714/528-0066, www.giacusa.com
Stasis Engineering
2007 Audi TT
Nobody thought the team from NorCal could do it, but they did. For the past four years, Stasis has brought performance cars that dominate the road course.
The two previous wins were over 2sec ahead of second place, thanks to a perfectly-tuned Audi S4 and nimble Lotus Elise turbo.
This year, a DSG-equipped FWD Audi TT 2.0T showed up with a custom turbo kit and Stasis' own line of brakes and suspension. Proving their outstanding products, they were able to oust the AWD competition, despite their superior traction and a significant advantage of almost 300whp!
Driver Adam Pecorari competes in the World Challenge touring car series, driving one of the Stasis Motorsport Audi A4s. In fact, he's been very successful this year, recording a recent win in Canada.Contact: www.stasisengineering.com, 707/935-9700/921-6000
