In Memory of Denny Lee
4 My best friend, Denny Lee, died of cancer aged 42 on July 27th, 2005. We'd spend all our free time working on his Vette. When he passed I was and still am a bit lost. I spent most of my time indoors going crazy over what had to happen for him to be taken out of this world so quickly. Then in August I bought a red Jetta because his Vette was red and I did it out of respect for him - it was a way to incorporate a color he loved.
I immediately started modifying it, which I've done fairly quickly. She is a 2001 Jetta 1.8T Wolfsburg Edition. I worked very hard to make it nice enough to take to DubFest, since we were both supposed to attend. I went through with it even though he had passed less than two months before.
The mods I've done so far are an N75 race valve, AEM CAI, Euro Sport strut bar, GIAC X-Chip, B&M shifter, AWE boost gauge, H&R coilovers, 19" TSW Kayalami rims, GReddy G2 exhaust, H&R sway bars, ABD Big Bore turbo inlet pipe, and of course it's lowered. I still need my FMIC installed and Brembo brakes done, then who knows?
It's my daily driver and I was hoping it'll get some recognition to show what it takes some people to inspire them to do something out of respect for a best friend. I recently got your 10/05 issue and read about Zach Smith in the Letters section. It touched my heart and my blessings go out to his family, as I know what it's like to go through something like that.
I'm glad you guys took the time to write about Zach and show the emails written in his honor. I've never done car mods before but hope this brings me in a new direction in life, and sparks a light for me to achieve a different path in my life.

Lambo Doors 1
I'm writing to explain why I think there are so many Lambo doors. Firstly, when you start dreaming about cars, you often think of a Lambo or some high-end car most of us can't afford. So some people have obviously decided to go with Lambo doors to realize their dreams. Another reason is some people get a sense of personalization by adding the doors. This is because if you live in a place where they're uncommon, it makes the car that much better than one without the doors.

I'm writing to tell you I agree, kinda. When HPA came out with their Lambo-style doors, I was hooked. I needed a pair for my 2003 GTI. Who would expect a car that appeared mostly stock, except for suspension, Euro bumpers and textured rubbing strips, would have gullwing doors? But overnight they seemed like old news. Maybe it was the bright yellow Acura Integra parked outside Autozone with its doors in the air, or that every tuner car I see in magazines has gullwing doors and black wheels.
The classics never go out of style.

I just want to thank you for saying what many of us have felt for a long time. A judge with a sheet of paper should not be the one you build your car for. It should be an extension of yourself, built for your sense of style, not for somebody else's photocopied sense of what's hot or not. I completely agree with what you say.
P.s. My car also has color-matched wheels.
