The worst part is I've never met a Honda driver who said "Ha, you drive a Volkswagen... that's so lame-ass." Now part of the reason is that VWs are damn good cars and deserve respect for quality and craftsmanship (for the most part), but when a CRX can be deadlocked in the quarter-mile with a street bike, it deserves just as much respect, if not more.
I loved the Time Attack feature and really hope it opens some people's eyes. I love Volkswagens, but I'm getting sick of the pompous "I'm better than you because I drive a German car" attitude.
I'm sure you'll get some of the regular "how dare you put Japanese cars in your mag" emails, but cars are cars and power is power, and the Japanese cars proved themselves to be tough contenders.
I know the whole point of that feature wasn't to promote Japanese cars and that it's not the personal opinions of Eurselves (haha), but a lot of people would see it that way, and I just wanted you to know that I dug Time Attack and wouldn't mind seeing it again. So no hate from me.Rupert WhiteNeptune, NJ
Time Attack will happen again in November 2005, and we're encouraging Euro tuners to bring powerful, nimble, lightweight cars to the event. Let's hope we can win some more classes this time around.
Hello SailorI'm in the Navy in Italy and I really dig the mag! I got a subscription as a gift. I love the cars in Europe, and it kills me not to be able to upgrade my VW GTI for fear of it getting stolen, since Naples has the highest rate of stolen cars in the world! I had two and sold them for this reason. Now I have a '96 Alfa Romeo 155 2.0 Twin-Spark. I wish I could bring it back to the States since I only paid $1,000 for it, but it's not legal. I picked up a '73 Innocenti instead because anything over 25 years is allowed into the country. It's a nice car if I don't have to be anywhere on time! The Alfa kicks ass though! It's great at high speed, and I love to piss off people with Hondas and such. And from my experience, Euros are top-speed cars and ricers are 0-60 cars. If you can, try to write a little on Alfas because they're tight! Keep up the good work, and to all the readers out there, keep an open mind for that Daewoo that might whup your ass one day!Vinnie PalumboNaples, Italy
Good use of the exclamation point!
Now What?I just finished reading the 11/04 editorial and I have to agree that eurotuner is definitely biased. I've thought for quite some time that you should change your name to "bavariantuner." I've been encouraged by previous editorials stating you'll begin showing other cars outside the requisite BMW, VW and Audi range, but I've yet to see it happen. I still enjoy the mag each month, but it won't be my must-read until it applies a little more to me. I own an '02 Jaguar X-Type 3.0 Sport and am hopeful I'll eventually see more aftermarket support for the car, such as forced induction.Jack ArmijoEmail
We'd love to have some modified Jags. Send in photos and we'll feature the best.
Salami 2It was great to see a photo of race driver Don "Big" Salami in the 1/05 issue. He's a close acquaintance of mine, and I thought I'd share another great photo of him with a few more close friends.WilmaEmail
We Deserve MoreI'm a big fan of your mag but have a serious complaint about your content. To put it simply: you don't feature enough articles or insights on Passats, specifically the B5. It's been about two years since I subscribed and I saw one article on a B5. We deserve more. Do all Passat owners and members of clubb5.com a huge favor and run more articles.Michael SaundersWyncote, PA
We're big fans of the car, and many of the tech features we do are equally applicable to the Passat since they share many components. We'd also love to feature another but haven't seen any great examples recently. So here's your invitation to send us photos and specs of your Passats.
