Auto shop owner Cory Sterling has owned and worked on VWs most of his adult life. His pride and joy was an '84 Rabbit until he got married. He sold it to buy a house for his new wife, and in turn, his wife bought him a '95 Golf Sport 2.0. He claims it was an even trade, but we believe he got the better end of the deal. Initially, his wife Holly adamantly stated that if he modified the car in any way, she would weld the valve cover shut -- a statement that would make any car enthusiast cry for Mommy.
Fortunately, Cory took Holly's words as more of a suggestion than a threat. But he did take them into consideration, so his goal was to modify the Golf lightly and leave it at that.
He started by ripping out the Jamex suspension the previous owner installed and replacing it with a Weitec setup. He then swapped out the headlights for Mk4 lamps. The finishing touch was a badgeless front grille. And that was it. Clearly that's not the case from the look of it. The car lasted six months in that state before Cory had the itch to do more. He explains that "it simply snowballed" and blames longtime customer and friend Eric Lietner for it. Eric purchased an ATP turbo kit from Cory's shop, and when he saw how well Eric's Golf responded, he had to get one as well.
