When you hit on a winning formula, it's always best to stick with it. That's been our mantra for years and it's clearly a philosophy our friends at Studie AG in Yokohama City, Japan believe in as well.
Over the past few years, we've featured a number of its cars; all with a similar theme. There was a bright blue 130i hatchback (et 5/07), green and orange Z4 M Coupes (et 7/08), a pink E92 M3 (et 7/09) and more recently a white E36 M3 (et 12/09).
Beside the bright colors, each car wore a genuine BMW Motorsport widebody. No, not some cheap fiberglass kit, but a full carbon fiber conversion identical to the ones used by the works endurance racers at the infamous Nürburgring 24-hour race.
It seems that Studie's owner, Yasuaki "Bob" Suzuki is a huge fan of the race, and has attended on many occasions. His series of cars is a tribute to those racers.
For his latest project, the Japanese tuner chose a 2009 BMW 335i. They opted for a white motorsports paint job and again sought original body panels. In this instance, the widebody was supplied by Schubert Motorsport in Germany - a team renowned for its endurance racing exploits.
The carbon fiber kit consisted of front and rear bumpers plus replacement front fenders and extended rear quarter panels. The adjustable rear wing is also part of the aerodynamics package, which has been extensively tested to increase downforce.
In addition, Studie used its contacts to obtain a pair of genuine BMW Motorsport side skirts. The BMW Motorsport carbon door mirrors were also originally developed for the E36 M3 racers.

The hood vents were supplied by the same source. Having been homologated for World Touring Car competition, they were grafted into the stock hood, which is secured by Aerocatch latches.
The wide rear fenders have allowed the tuner to fit a 35mm spacer to the 19x10'' rear wheels, pushing out the track for better stability. The wheels are the RE-V model made by BBS Japan and painted matte black to contrast the bodywork.
Up front, 19x9'' wheels don't use spacers at present, so the full width isn't exploited. However, it does allow the car to be used on the street without rubbing problems
The brakes use Brembo four-piston calipers all round, painted in a competition blue to match the graphics on the car, while the suspension uses 3D Design coilovers with custom valving for this application.
Where many of Studie's former project cars have retained stock powerplants, the biturbo in this E90 benefits from the association with Miami-based Active Autowerke. As a result, it has Active's piggyback ECU, front-mount intercooler and blow-off valve. Fitted with a Japanese-built Arqray exhaust and aFe's dual air intake system, the straight-six should be close to 400hp at the crank.
Previous interiors have also been rather plain, benfiting from little more than front seats. And while Recaros were again installed in this E90, the rest of the interior was trimmed in alcantara and leather by Newing. They also replaced the main instrument cluster with a Stack display and fitted BMW's flat-bottomed steering wheel.
Thankfully resisting the enormous temptation to cover the race rep in vinyl, Studie has built another project car to be proud of; and one that will hopefully inspire others to follow suit.
No doubt it will soon be serving as a high-speed taxi at Studie's annual get-together and track day, where its fleet of project cars are used to scare and astound loyal customers in equal measure.
