Admittedly, the R32 is a great long-distance cruiser and will be sold in limited numbers. But we imagine most people who buy it will be diehard VR6 fans who want to rejoice in the glorious exhaust note.
Another Nail......In the R32's coffin is the GTI Edition 30. Available in Europe to celebrate the GTI's 30th anniversary, these cars are equipped with a detuned version of the Audi S3's 265hp 2.0T engine. As such, they produce 230hp with stronger internals than a regular GTI.
The Edition 30 also gets a set of BBS wheels and body kit - not the sexiest Golf in the world, but perhaps it makes more of a statement than the R32.
It has a few nice touches that give European customers usable performance at an affordable price. Driven across some of the finest country roads southern England has to offer, in both wet and dry, it was everything we wanted it to be - never disappointing, but often surprisingly good. Traction was rarely an issue, braking was impressive and turn-in was pin-sharp.
According to our sources, VWoA is looking to introduce a similar package, but it could be watered down to meet a competitive price point.
