Fern Mora's passion for cars started at such a young age it almost seems the passion was inbred. At the age of six, he was given a red fire engine pedal car with ladders and bells - a gift from his mother that would've satisfied every other boy in his neighborhood. But it wasn't enough for Fern. Realizing his friend down the street owned the exact same pedal car, the next day his mom saw a shiny blue vehicle minus the ladder and bell. It was then that Fern began what would be an enduring hobby, reflected squarely in this 2002 BMW 330ci.
Fern purchased a brand-new black example to serve as a commuter car. He drives 110 miles round-trip to work, a voyage not uncommon in Southern California, but one that can wreak havoc on a vehicle's engine and drivetrain, especially on a five-day working week. Plus, Fern's original daily driver was a mint condition '95 BMW 840ci - a rare model that holds a place in Fern's heart to this day.
At first, the 330ci was slated to remain stock since it seemed pointless to modify the commuter car. However, he couldn't resist and installed a Hamann body kit for some aesthetic appeal. He also promised himself the kit would be the only modification done to the car. A few months later, however, one of the cooling fan's blades let loose as he sped along the highway, causing it to ricochet inside the engine bay and ruin the hood. He visited his friend Raymond from M1 Autobody to fix the damage and a conversation took place that went from discussing the price of the repairs to talking about how Fern has grown tired of driving around in a black car, since this was his fourth black ride.
