We often get letters from people asking why there are so few Jettas in the mag, and the easy answer is that it seems to be much harder to modify the sedan cosmetically than it is the Golf. We don't know why that should be, but we just don't see as many great Jettas as Golfs. But when a good one comes along, we snap it up. And JJ Larson's VR6 isn't a good Jetta. No, it's a great one.
Even JJ will admit the road hasn't been smooth. In fact, it's taken him three years and countless modifications to reach this stage, but finally he's happy.
The 31-year-old graphic designer from Bloomingdale, NJ, bought a '00 Jetta GL VR6 rather than the more obvious GLI since he knew he'd be modifying it extensively and didn't want to waste money on parts he was just going to replace. "I didn't need all the bells and whistles, but people laugh because I don't have a sunroof. It's actually better for body rigidity," he asserted.
