Every once in a while there comes an opportunity to buy a bargain, whether it be a car or a "two for the price of one" lap dance. Whatever the item, there are two choices -- buy on impulse and be happy, or pass it up and live with regret. This was the situation Girard de Guzman found himself in.
You see, several years ago he purchased a Mercedes 190E and was quite content. But like every car enthusiast, he still enjoyed browsing through the local auto mart. A couple of months later, an opportunity presented itself when he saw an ad for a black '95 M3 at $6,000 below book value.
Curious as to why the car was so cheap, Girard headed to the dealership. He took a testdrive and it was smooth like butter. It had a clean title, no accidents and no dings or scratches, and best of all, nobody had died in it. It was perfect. So he jumped in and signed the papers on the spot. But as he was signing additional papers, he noticed the dealer had changed the price on him. When confronted, the general manager claimed the ad had been misprinted. However, Girard sat there and argued until they finally gave him the advertised price. "I didn't think of it when I signed the papers. I assumed they were giving me the car at the listed price," Girard said. "Somebody must have been fired that day, because $6,000 is a lot of money to lose!"
