Most diehard VW enthusiasts remember their first time. We're not talking about sex here either. Some seem to forget it even exists and become infatuated with the VW roundel to the point of obsession. But hold on. We're not suggesting 26-year-old Charles Liautaud isn't as promiscuous as the rest of us like to think we are.
What we're talking about is how Dubheads can recall with intricate detail their first experience in a VW. For Charles it was in Mike Potter's autocross Scirocco. Charles was getting into SCCA autocross events about five years ago and had been talking to Mike, an SCCA champion and the owner of Parts4vws.com, when Mike offered him the ride of his life. After that, Charles was hooked.
Within a month he'd met Dave Henry from Dave Henry Enterprises at another SCCA meeting. Charles recounted his adventures with Mike and learned that Dave had a Mk1 Scirocco that had been stored for the past ten years. Although covered in dust, it was otherwise in perfect condition. A deal was struck and the car was his.
