The CSL was supposed to be the definitive M3 -- lighter, faster and stronger. But the Swedish company, Mr Carbon, knew further weight reduction and a 480bhp supercharger were what it really needed. The result is incredible.Let's face it, most of us would prefer to have the best of everything. Be it clothes, watches, food or even a cell phone. Owning the finest things money can buy is always the goal. And it's the same with BMW M3s.
The American buying market has embraced Munich's latest M coupe close to its bosom -- which must make it even more galling that the pinnacle of M3 production, the best built to date, hasn't been released stateside. Unfortunately, the CSL is just a pipe dream.
In Europe it's a different story. Not only are CSLs becoming more common on the roads and racetracks, but there's a growing trend to modify these lightweight, carbon-fiber-dressed beauties. It may surprise many that the most extreme CSL to be found doesn't hail from Germany or the UK, but rather from Sweden. It was here at the Falkenberg race track that we were introduced to Mr Carbon's super-charged, race-prepared and styled M3 CSL.
