2013 Fastivus Event

Fastivus for all of us

Now entering its seventh year, Fastivus blew in over the long Memorial Day weekend. This year, following last years success, the event was opened up to all VW year makes and models. Opening the floodgates to VW fans throughout southern California. With over 400 cars and 600 enthusiasts, opening day proved to be a huge success for Fastivus attendees.

Something new for this year's show was the ability to bring your own provisions and camping gear to stay on the grounds throughout the night rather than trek back and forth from LA for race day Sunday morning.

Show

Past Fastivus events were strictly reserved for VW Golf R models from the first rendition the MkIV to today's MkVI. This was the first year VW of North America and the Fasativus team decided to open the gates and extend the invitation to all. We were delighted to see a healthy showing of GTI's from nearly every marque to various other VW badged models like the Beetle, Passat, Jetta and even some Audis turned up to celebrate the So Cal VW premier summer show.

APR Motorsport, this years title sponsor, brought out the big rig fresh off its duty during last weekend's SOWO 2013 show. Without skipping a beat, the APR install crew was at the ready with parts and tools to install nearly everything from their current catalogue. They even brought out a few "coming soon" products including the highly anticipated 4.5L roots style supercharger for the RS5 and R8 (V8) models.

As the sun roasted and the wind blew show goers were the least bit deterred. Simply slather on some sunscreen, pitch your tent (the real one not the perverse one) and crack open a few beers. You were bound to have a good time. Another first for this year's Fastivus was to allow attendees to camp on the grounds throughout the night. So, for example, if you planning on participating during the SOLD OUT track day driving experience on Big Willow you could simply set an alarm clock rather than expense a hotel in nearby Lancaster. What VW and Fastivus organizer's outlook for the show center around making it a Californian VAG enthusiasts pilgrimage. Let's be honest, our East Coast counterparts are dying for an excuse to reignite the East v. West forum wars in real life. With events like nighttime head's up drag racing, show and shine and a full track racing experience, rest assured they are well on their way to making this a reality. As long as Mother Nature decides to go easy on the winds and pre-summer heat you can expect us to throw up a diehard's tent next year.

What Fastivus has become famous for is its raffle. Having humble beginnings giving away a simple HPA short shifter, this year saw nearly $25000 worth of premier VW parts ready for their next owner to wave their winning ticket in the air triumphantly. VW NA chipped in three genuine VW Parts roof racks for a MkIV, MkV and MKVI. Rotiform kicked in a free set of cast wheels and SoloWerks gave away a free set of coilovers. If you had any hesitation of making plans for next year, we'd suggest looking at the raffle prizes on the Fastivus website and packing your bags the next time summer heats up.
