Crashing the APR BBQ in our non-VAG rental car, we arrived early to tuck it away behind the trees at the company’s huge facility.
This was their 11th annual BBQ for their loyal customers, offering free labor on ECU upgrades and parts installation, plus discounted prices on the full APR product line – so the last thing we wanted was for them to see us in a Ford Focus! Fortunately, we slipped in during one of the many tours of the 34000sqft facility, so most people didn’t see us because they were viewing the manufacturing process first-hand.
Many of the products are designed and developed in-house. For example, turbo manifolds can be produced in plastic to test size and shape before the final versions are manufactured in the machine shop and scrutinized on the in-house dyno. The whole process guarantees performance packages do what is expected of them. The only hiccup in the program was when the dyno cell’s exhaust fan nearly sucked us out of the building!
With the BBQ in full swing, we found an array of food and plenty of VW/Audis to drool over. We also visited displays from Brembo and Audi Club of Georgia, who were on hand to showcase products or upcoming events respectively.

The APR BBQ was a fun event, bouncy castle and all. So when people started hanging out into the evening, APR ordered pizzas and providing entertainment by playing race footage from the past season. We were treated to live commentary from Ian Baas and Kevin Gleason about all their mishaps, which had the crowd laughing.
Finally, the famous “Stage 3+ kit” raffle got the winner super-excited, while the rest of us enjoyed a fireworks show illuminating the night sky.
