Downtown Leavenworth was filled with nothing but Euros
If you haven’t already made your way to the Pacific Northwest in June, you’re missing out on one of North America’s best events. It’s not a show or race, but a casual caravan and get-together. It unites Euros from all over WA, OR, Canada, ID and even CA. We’re talking about the Leavenworth Drive, and the 2011 event marked its tenth anniversary – the biggest one yet!
We should warn you, Northwest weather is like a crapshoot. Even though the drive takes place in June, you never know if you’re going to get rain or sunshine. Unfortunately, the rain was incessant at the starting point in Bellevue, WA, but that didn’t deter the cars from coming.
Breaking last year’s record, more than 1000 Euros braved the wet and sacrificed their freshly-waxed rides to attend. We saw everything from the aired-out stance crew to old school and BMW fanatics.
One of our favorite parts of the drive is the charity aspect. Every car owner donates $10-100 to Children’s Hospital. With over 1000 cars, that’s more than $10,000 donated to kids in need! Doesn’t that give you a warm, fuzzy feeling inside?
After the cars have congregated, the caravan makes its way 110-miles east to the Bavarian-themed town of Leavenworth, nestled within the Cascade Mountains. The town offers a gorgeous atmosphere offering German food, beer and souvenirs. And luckily for us, the rain stopped once we hit the mountains, giving us a break for the Seattle rainfall.
So if you live on the West Coast, mark your calendars for ’12 because we expect bigger and better things to come. Rain or shine, we’ll be there!
