This old school Audi 5000 won the burnout competition by spinning its rear wheels for over 2 min until the tires blew off!
The great thing about Waterfest is that the weekend isn't just about show queens and tuner booths. There's the element of speed involved that many other car shows neglect.
Waterfest gives Volkswagen and Audi owners the opportunity to drive their cars in competition against others or just for the experience, whether on the drag strip, in a tight autocross or strapped to a dyno to see how much power you're making.
Since Unitronic was sponsoring the drag and dyno events, we persuaded some volunteers to help with our coverage, but unfortunately they didn't catch any of the drag racing results - and the organizers hadn't managed to compile a list of winners as we went to press, but hopefully these will be online by now.
The dyno award was given to a '91 Jetta Coupe belonging to DM Motorsport. Not just a FWD Mk2, the car had an entire R32 engine and drivetrain swap with custom single-turbo upgrade and built internals. In fourth gear, it spun the rollers to 534whp. It could have gone farther but the mobile dyno wouldn't allow the monstrous Jetta enough traction.
