California Euro Enthusiasts Unite For A Day In The Desert Heat Of Willow Springs.
We're not sure what Dubwars organizers were thinking when they moved their show to Rosamond, CA (near the Mojave desert) in the middle of July. The new date and venue called for plenty of drinking water, sunblock and endurance.
Dubwars is one of the last surviving Californian VW/Audi events and despite 100 temperatures, enthusiasts from across the state traveled to Willow Springs Raceway to support the scene.
The show featured more than 100 cars and the most prominent were from NoFuknJoke, with several members traveling down from NorCal. Some nice VWs also trekked up from Mexico.
Surprisingly, one of the main elements of Dubwars wasn't exploited: Any car that entered the show had the opportunity to use the track for free; all you needed was a helmet. However, the hot weather seemed to deter most owners, with only a handful brave enough to race. We hope next year will bring a change of date and lower temperatures.
Joe Ninobla's Beetle 1.8T won Best of Show with more custom mods than all the show cars combined. We're not kidding! Full feature soon | This '81 Jetta has a 2.0 16v with a modified T3/T4 turbo making 250hp. Francisco Gonzalez has updated the suspension, interior and exterior.
