Despite only being in existence for two years, VWFixx Fest has gone from a good-sized show in a state park to a full-blown event at the Bradenton Motorsports Park dragstrip in Florida.
As you can see from the photos, the show pulled in about 500 cars and over 1,200 people. What's more, there was something for everybody, from a crazy Kbelwagen on the dragstrip to the hottest Mk4 show cars and even a Mk5 Jetta. There was every generation of VW in attendance, including air-cooled cars, and a nice smattering of Audis. Mix in the Florida weather and you've got the recipe for a great event.
The VWFixx Fest is a combination of show-and-shine and drag racing, which increases its appeal even more. Everybody can take part, so there were plenty of daily drivers parked in the show area, and a few turned up on the strip. However, few could hope to compete with Chris Green of Unforgettable Sounds & Performance in his Mk3 Jetta VR6 turbo, which ran 10.10sec at 143mph! This was the first 10sec VW most people had ever seen, and it's a sight to behold. It brings a tear to the eye just thinking about it.
At the other end of the spectrum was the winner of a $200 prize from FixxTuning for the fastest non-sponsored VW/Audi. It went to the owner of a 1.8T from Delray Beach, FL, who ran an impressive 12.7sec at 114mph.
Prior to the action at the track on Sunday, there was a dyno day on Saturday. It took place at RevXtreme in East Tampa, FL, and about 12 cars took part, with everybody having a good time.
Besides the show organizer, FixxTuning, and ourselves, there were several other sponsors in attendance. These included HPA Motorsports, which made the trek down from Canada. All the major chip tuners were on site as well, including APR, GIAC, Revo and UPsolute. With a few VW dealers also getting involved, it looks as if the future of this show is assured.
