In Spring '06 Some Euro Enthusiasts Gathered In Texas To Shoot The Breeze.
It's become a tradition in the Houston area that when March comes to an end, it's time for HotWaterBlast, and 2006 was no exception. Only this year, K&W Promotions presented the show instead of Club Hot Water (including Fred Kennard and Dale Witt), and they opened it to all European cars.
The title sponsor for the show was European Performance Motorsports and the organizers wish to thank them for all their support - Herr Schmidt's been a generous supporter and friend of the show for nine years now!
The location for the event was Clear Lake Park, which was filled with a variety of European cars (mostly VW/Audis). From the super-modded to mildly so, there were entries to please everybody.
Spectator attendance was very good. The proceeds from the $2 entrance fee allowed for a donation of $700 to be presented to the Center for Hearing and Speech (an organization that helps people learn how to deal with hearing impairment). Since the inception of HotWaterBlast nine years ago, a total of $5700 has been donated to them - it gives us a warm fuzzy glow.
There were tunes all day from the talented DJ clique European AG. It's always nice to have EAG and their cars at the show as well as the Club Volkspeed group from the McAllen area. We should also mention Strictly European of San Antonio, Texas, and the guys from Dallas for helping make HotWaterBlast the place to be in late March '06.
In addition to the VWs, there was eye-candy like Zerin Dube's super-clean '05 Audi A4 with a nice set of BBS wheels, and Javier Torres' awesome '86 BMW M6 from San Antonio. Juan Rodriguez brought his supercharged Passat V6, while Ramon Torres caused some double-takes at the sight of his R32 with Lambo doors. Best of Show went to Jason Baxter for his wild '00 Golf GTI with high wattage ICE.
When all was said and done, there were a total of 80 cars in attendance with 37 awards presented to recognize many worthy entries. And in continuing the tradition, around 40 people cruised to Chacho's for food and margaritas when everything was packed away.
Planning is underway for another K&W Promotions event in San Antonio, as well as the tenth annual HotWaterBlast in March '07. The organizers wish to thank all the participants, spectators, sponsors and friends for continuing to make the event such a success.
