Our Sister Magazine Organized A Car Audio Show - Trifecta - And An Audi S4 Was A Surprise Winner.
Does the world need another car audio show? Of course it does, if it's run by our sister publication Car Audio and Electronics magazine and sponsored by these leading companies: Arc Audio, Alpine, Morel, Kicker, Kenwood, Acoustic Edge, Focal, Audison, Pontus, Crossfire Audio, A3, Icon-TV, Extreme Autofest, Lowrider, SEMA and IAS.
The event is known as Trifecta, and it's a little different from your typical show car competition. That's because we gathered some of the top ICE builders and automotive designers in the country to judge enthusiasts' rides. And these guys judged the cars not only in terms of overall aesthetics and build quality, but also the sound quality of the audio systems. And just for fun (and bonus points) we measured the SPL (sound pressure level) as well. Something else that's different about Trifecta is that the top two from each event are invited to SEMA in November for the ultimate judging and a big cash prize.
The first of our three "regular" shows took place at SEMA's International Auto Salon in Philadelphia, PA. Thirty cars were assembled for the invitational, including high-end demo vehicles like Rob Ida's Tucker and Dave Fowlkes' '69 Buick Riviera. Not to be out done, some of the competitors had cars that stacked quite nicely against the professionals, including Dave Hary's Audi S4, Chrysler 300M, Ford F-350 and even a right-hand-drive Skyline.
The judges narrowed it down to five cars. In the end, the winner was no surprise. Justin Efkowtiz and his 300M packed with Focal and Audison gear took the $500 first prize, the invite to SEMA '06 and a magazine feature. Second place went to a sleeper - the S4. With Rockford Fosgate amps and subs, it collected maximum SPL points and scored high in the sound quality category, earning $250 and a SEMA invite.
