When you hear the name Hot Import Nights, you instantly flash back to that dark convention center filled with import cars, models, vendors, models, music and -- oh yea more models. And while there were plenty of imports and domestics, Euros were few and far between.
Because Waterwagens was scheduled the day after HIN on July 31, we decided we would check it out. Held at Qwest Field Expo Center, the show was a carbon copy of past shows. It was fairly dark but had well-lit areas for the major vendors. While most import cars were not in total darkness, the handful of Euros we did find was. Not only that they were also tucked away from the main traffic areas. Coincidence? Maybe.
The few we did find belonged to TWCompetition. These guys are everywhere up and the down the west coast. They had quantity and quality and their display was somewhat unorthodox. It was an ice sculpture with the team logo etched in the center and lit up with blue lights. They had some of the hottest Euros at the show and we're pretty sure a lot of them walked away with trophies.
Aside from TWC, there was a small group consisting of three E30 BMW and a Mk4 VW Golf. Their cars were mostly stock but they were proud to represent anyway.
One car that got a lot of attention was the 600hp HPA Audi TT. It was on display at the Dunlop booth and it was well lit. Because of this, car enthusiasts had to chance to see it in all its glory. The fact that it was 600hp with a full roll cage may have contributed.
In total, we counted less than 20 Euros at the show. This was disappointing but we figured people were preparing for Waterwagens. Even so, our numbers are quite low at most HIN events. Let's show world what Euros are all about and get out there and represent.
